ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Eugene Gladstone O'Neill (1888 – 1953), an Irish-American playwright, revolutionized American theater with his poetically titled plays that introduced realism techniques. Influenced by Chekhov, Ibsen, and Strindberg, his tragic masterpiece, "Long Day's Journey into Night," is often regarded among the finest U.S. plays of the 20th century, alongside works by Williams and Miller. Awarded the 1936 Nobel Prize in Literature, O'Neill is the sole playwright with four Pulitzer Prizes for Drama.
